HOMEMADE RASPBERRY VINEGAR + A VALENTINE’S DAY ROUND-UP

FEBRUARY 9, 2012

It is almost Valentine’s Day. In the past, I have always made candy, lots and lots of candy. I am not skipping the candy making this year, however, I wanted to mix it up a bit. Raspberry vinegar is a staple in my pantry. Making vinegars is one of those easy, non-challenging tasks that I generally don’t take advantage of. Not to mention, it costs pennies to make.

Awhile back, I purchased some Square Hermetic Glass Bottles (various sizes) at the Container Store. They were comfortably resting with all of my other “gifting” materials, ribbons, and packaging. After the first of the year, I spent a few days organizing everything in my house and when I came across the jars I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them.

You don’t have to go out and buy bottles. I save bottles; mustard, peppers, jams and jellies, maple syrup, etc. When the condiments are used up, I clean them and then boil them. I store them in my cabinet and use them for homemade salad dressings, barbecue sauce, ketchup, jam, etc. They come in handy. Plus, they are cute!

The kids are going to give their favorite teachers a bottle of raspberry vinegar. This weekend, the candy making will begin (toffee, fudge, carmellos) and it is up to them as who they want to gift them to! Valentine’s is a festive holiday. The Internet, specifically Pinterest, is loaded with ideas, inspiration, and homemade goodies. I have compiled a few of my favorites!

1. Fruit on a Stick | 2. Chocolate Nutella Alfajores   | 3. Nutella Ravioli
4. Cookies + Milk  5. Dulce de Leche Cake Pops | 6. Chocolate Covered Pretzels
7. Hand Stamped Valentine Kit  8. Whole Wheat Chocolate Cookies
9. Valentine’s Broken Glass Jello 10. Striped Heart Cookies
11. Homemade Sugar Cubes | 12.Cardamom Creme Brulee

Happy Valentine’s Day to you and your loved ones!
